What Should I Expect?

Declaring bankruptcy can be a complicated legal process, but if you have an attorney, it may be relatively quick. But be warned: if you hide assets, or have committed fraud, or are trying to use bankruptcy in a wrongful way, it can be full of unpleasant surprises and frustrating delays.

After filing the bankruptcy the process can be quite informal. You will be asked a series of yes or no questions verifying that the information you have provided is correct. It will take approximately 10 to 15 minutes for your hearing.

Note that bankruptcy will stay on your credit for 10 years after filing. For home or auto loans we have seen clients approved for vehicles within months of their discharge. There are several lenders who will approve home loans days after discharge.
